Photography project #001 2009; part of an ongoing concept wrapped around ALL THINGS DIGITAL
![]() Location: In and around Myrtle Beach Hilton Hotel/Myrtle Beach, SC Time: End of January 2009 images: 954 digital still jpg and tif format ![]() Theme: Documentation of hotel pool and spa areas and relationships to atlantic ocean; deck chairs; pool fixtures; water in pool; excursion down Strand. ![]() Location 2: General shoot from automobile; Myrtle Beach, SC to Matthews, NC Theme: Landscape variations; highway variations; small town variations. ![]() Software: Digital re-imaging with CorelPhotoPaint X4 and PhotoShop C3. Some design/composition focus at original exposures; reprocessing images using software as creative re-imaging using same intellectual and intuitive automatism as a guide that I use to make my paintings. I processed re-images according to how I felt changes that needed to be applied ![]() As with all my work, this project is not finished and on going. ![]() As of this publication, no processing of MOV video files. These files will be part of future development. ![]() Samples below show original exposure compared to re-imaging manipulations. ![]() |
Set one: Base image 7052. Extreme telephoto of two figures entering hotel; taken from room balcony at 12th floor. Slow camera speed created motion blur and applied a [Baconesque] quality to the two figures [web link to see paintings by Francis Bacon] . Several re-images illustrate affects of various digital tools applied to original image. Being part of my overall creative process, this image (and all images) are constantly in flux and change.

Set three: Base image 7135. Re-imaging shows my infatuation with the hand rails for the pool. I love the shape of the rails along with its shadow. Many re-images produced so far and more in the making. The very bright spot is sun reflecting off hotel windows from about the 10th floor. Interesting???!!!!

Set four: Base image 7358. Pool water reflections are an endless supply of movement between shape and color. The stills don't do justice to this visual experience. I will post some of the MOV video files in future. The re-images illustrate shape and color relations. Also this visual structure is currently in use as structure for current painting.

Set five: Base image 7446. Extreme telephoto exposure of deck chairs at pool side taken from 12th floor balcony. re-imaging allows for removal of stuff not water and manipulating the geometry to suit esthetic requirements. Re-imaging not finished. More to come.

Set six: Base image 7881. Original exposure from side window of automobile traveling at 70mph; sc landscape. I found this image to be a challenge as to how to and what to do with the re-images. Once I got into it, the possibilities are endless. Here are some of the more extreme re-images showing extreme software manipulations.

Set seven: Base image 7910. Original exposure of cows in a field. Again shot from side window of automobile traveling at 70mph; sc landscape. Here also, the re-imaging capability is endless. re-imaging not complete. Here are several samples of my interest in attaching a very minimalist flat color-to-shape to sections of the composition.
