—— 2013-14 Computer Manipulated Photo-based Images —— Nonthemed/Experimental, 2013-14, Size & Support Var. Images 01-05: This is experimental work in both idea and software technique. Sometimes one side will affect and help to create the other side. This begs the question – chicken or the egg. Most of the time development of an image of this type comes from play; messing around with what the software can do to move the image structures around. Florals, 2013-14, Size & Support Var. Images 06 – 11: This work explores my interest in minimal expression; reducing the elements so that the bare essentials tell their story. I am especially interested in flattening the image; reducing some color areas from modeled to flat shapes. Don't really know why this is of interest to me, but it is. The reduction is a direct relation to how I intuit it should be. I take out/change, put back, rearrange, take out until I feel there is no more to do. However, I revisit the image many times. When visiting, there might be an urge to do something to it or make another arrangement of the same image using the same base digital image. EarthCam NYC Images 12 & 13: This project has been in the research/search stage for several years. I regularly visit the earthcams located in Times Square/NYC . I feel like a voyeur but like the images that I find. I set up my computer to take fullscreen captures from the several cameras that are available at http://www.earthcam.com/usa/newyork/timessquare/?cam=tsstreet {link opens in new window. Close window when done. This project is very much in the very early stages of development. I have yet to define any goals. I am playing with the 5000 plus images that I have captured to see if there is anything there that warrants a future. TV, 2013-14, Size & Support Var. Images 14 & 17: Like the EarthCam project, this project has been in the research/search stage for several years. I am a little further into this as I have done more final images that the EarthCam adventure. I have stated in earlier postings that I set up my camera with a telephoto lens and shoot pics from the TV; anything and everything is fair game for capture. Images that interest me are developed. Like all of my digital work, the images are revisited constantly over time. And I am constantly reworking an image as the impulse moves me to do so. Urban Landscape, 2013-14, Size & Support Var. Images 18 – 23: Of all the images in this collection, computer manipulation is focused on paralleling vertical and horizontal elements to the sides and top/bottom edges and color correction; see image # 18, 20, 21 & 22. My interest is not radical change of the image, but to alter or correct the camera's eye rendering to a rendering that explores a sharpened sensation of stability by paralleling shape edges; an angled edge is less stable than a vertical or horizontally related edge. The subject of my Urban Landscape imaging is how the economic crash of 2008 has affected the urban as well as the rural landscape; how this change affects these landscapes and forms a “new normal” —the effect. |
