1989-91 digital imaging

Digitals 1989-91: (Old Saybrook CT) (program started); (PC Paintbrush)(Gem)} DOS image programs used.
1992:  (Charlotte NC); Reworked and upgraded Leading Edge generated images; CorelDraw
(DOS PhotoPaint v3.0) in monochrome mode.
April 1993:  Matthews NC studio established.

What does the above mean? Simple! In 1986 I purchased an IBM compatible PC: Leading Edge Model D; monochrome monitor; dual 360k floppy disk; epson MX80 compatible dotmatrix printer; DOS v3.x.

My image strategy was simple also. I transfered my studio processes used to create my painting and drawing to computer drawing and computer painting. The DOS software used different patterns to represent different colors and I applied this to the imaging in an intuitive improvisational manner. Lots of experimenting underway as I learned to use the software and limitations of the DOS image making environment.

When I upgraded my computer in 1994 to a Gateway running DOS 6.2, and began to use CorelPhotoPaint V3.0, the imaging process was expanded even further.

The images below were printouts on heavy drawing paper using both the Leading Edge Model D and the Gateway PC as computers; an Epson MX80 compatible dot matrix printer (actual printer mfg I now forget). The color variations in black ink dot matrix ribbons was enormous. I found this rather interesting and exciting visually to use different brands of dot matrix printer ribbons. Also as the ribbon was slowly exhausted of ink as it was being used, the color of the ink got lighter and lighter; also more purple in color (???). I liked this. I printed hundreds of samples. Many images wered resized, reformated dimensions (h x w) in Corel PhotoPaint. Some of the image files were not saved. I sometimes forgot to save the changes to files. Bad Me! (then and now)

On several thumb pages, I created a link to the original digital file. I note this on the thumb page.

The two links at bottom of this page point to samples of the images files I could locate at this time. At one time there were more, but I had a backup disaster around 1996-97. My tape backups somehow got corrupted. I couldn't recover the files. I was smart enough after this disaster to make backups of remaining available digital files to 1.44MB floppy disks; then copied these floppies to CD's.

You will notice the spacing between the thumbs are a little wonky. This is how Irfanview program codes a page; very simple. I didn't make any changes to this code as I feel it is better to set up the images in a file directy, then let Irfvanview do the rest. I did some modifications to the htm image files created where needed. Irfanview does a fair job of making web pages using a selection of jpg images.
