I wanted to explore a return to imaging the human figure. It seemed good sense to examine scanning images from magazines, 35mm color slides and photography prints; subsequently manipulating these images in Photoshop and CorelPhotoPaint. The idea was to uncover possi-bilities for paint application translations.
Here is a sample of these images. There were so many images that I found it difficult to choose anything but a small sampling. Much of this imaging delt more with technical and learning issues and not art making. Selections are from sessions late in 2000 and mid-to-late 2001.The canvas project never materialized. I stopped building these images in late 2001. The concepts behind this project still interest me and I am open to further development.
Digital 2002New digital painting based on work produced in 1978-79 before my move to CT from VT. It was never developed. Only 2 or 3 large oil/wax paintings and a series on oil/wax paintings on paper were produced; a lot of simple small line drawings were created as idea sketches. Somewhere along the line (over the years) this project got placed into the forgotten file.
However, work from the 1987-91 period is close in overall attitude. Both projects were a deliberate focus away from linear gesture and toward simplified shape. See Canvas 1987-91.I found 30 pages of line drawings from 1979. I scanned some of these line drawings and manipulated them in Corel PhotoPaint. Scanning and workup continues as of this writing (1/30/04). This project is still in the digitalizing stages. No canvase have been produced to date.
This is a small sampling of manipulated digitized line drawings.
